About the author

A writer of the slow hour.

She was born in a small house at the end of a road that ran out into the sea, and learned to read by the light of a kitchen lamp her grandmother left on against the dark. She has been writing since she was nine; some of the sentences from that time still survive, mostly as habits she cannot break.

Her first novel, Half-Light, appeared in 2018. Four books have followed it — letters, novellas, short stories — each one insisting, in its own way, on slowness as an erotic act.

On the work

She writes in longhand by morning, in the same notebook she has used for fourteen years, and types up the afternoons. She believes a sentence should be allowed to undress at its own pace.

Lives

Between Lisbon and a small house in the Var, with a cat called Marguerite. Her readers write her letters; she answers all of them, eventually.
